  3. **White Moors are an ethnic group of Arab-Berber origin. Black Moors, Pular, Wolof, and Soninke are of black African ancestry. Four missing data on ethnic groups (2 among males and 2 among females)
  4. ***Haemoglobin levels and age groups were based on the World Health Organization (WHO) classification [40]. For adults, anaemia is defined as < 13.0 g/dL in men and < 12.0 g/dL in non-pregnant women. The cut-off for anaemia in pregnant women (< 11.0 g/dL) is lower than that of non-pregnant women. It was assumed that none of the included female patients were pregnant because information on possible pregnancy was not obtained and pregnancy test was not performed
